Phlebotomy

Phlebotomists are primarily responsible and accountable for the collection of blood specimens from patients for the purpose of laboratory analysis. By successfully completing this program you will have an opportunity to take the examination to become nationally certified.

Clinical Externship sites are Union Hospital, Elkton, MD and Perry Point VA Hospital, Perryville, MD. Clinical Externship hours are available only during the day, between the hours of 7a.m. and 4p.m and are typically in four (4) hour shifts. Clinical hours may require 12 to 16 weeks to complete and are scheduled at the availability of the clinical facility.

What is required?

You will need a high school diploma or a GED and a passing score on the Allied Health basic skills assessment. You'll also need to complete the following courses, totaling 223 hours of instruction/ clinical experience:

All students are required to wear green scrubs bearing the Cecil College patch (MUST be purchased from the Cecil College bookstore) and white shoes. Additionally, all students are required to be CPR certified and complete a health profile.
