Certified Nursing Assistant/Geriatric Nursing Assistant

After successfully completing the five-month long program, you'll be prepared to become certified through the Maryland Board of Nursing. Employment opportunities include hospitals, nursing homes, or other long-term care facilities. Our program will even prepare you to take the Geriatric Nursing Assistant Certification exam, which is required by the Maryland Board of Nursing to work as a GNA in a long-term care facility. Students are required to have finger-printing and a criminal background check completed before entering the clinical externship. The Certified Nursing Assistant program at Cecil College is approved by the Maryland Board of Nursing.

What is required?

You will need a high school diploma or a GED and a passing score (9th grade or higher) on the Allied Health basic skills assessment. You'll also need to complete the following courses, totaling 140 hours of instruction/clinical experience:

All students are required to wear white scrubs bearing the Cecil College patch (MUST be purchased from the Cecil College bookstore) and white shoes. Additionally, all students are required to be CPR certified and complete a health profile.
